چکیده

The problem of word sense disambiguation in lexical resources is one of the most important tasks in order to recognize and disambiguate the most significant word senses of a term. Lexicographers have to decide how to structure information in order to describe the world in an objective way. However, the introduced distinctions between word meanings are very often too fine grained for specific applications. If we want to use or even combine lexical resources within information retrieval systems, for example, we might want to apply the lexical resources in order to disambiguate documents (retrieved from the web within an information retrieval system) given the different meanings (retrieved from lexical resources) of a search term having unambiguous description. Therefore, we are usually interested in a small list of meanings with very distinctive features. Since many lexical resources, especially WordNet, provide frequently too fine grained word sense distinctions, we implemented the tool LexiRes that gives the possibility to navigate lexical information, helping authors of already available lexical resources in deleting or restructuring concepts using automatic merging methods.

Integrating Metaphor Information into RDF/OWL EuroWordNet

In this paper, we discuss the integration of metaphor information into the RDF/OWL representation of EuroWordNet. First, the lexical database WordNet and its variants are presented. After a brief description of the Hamburg Metaphor Database, examples of its conversion into the RDF/OWL representation of EuroWordNet are discussed. The metaphor information is added to the general EuroWordNet data ...

LexiRes RDF/OWL Editor: Maintaining Multilingual Resources

In this article we present the RDF/OWL LexiRes Tool that supports authors using RDF/OWL structures in editing and structuring ontologies. In contrast to standard ontology editors like e.g. Protégé [20], this tool was especially designed to support the use of multilingual resources, and in particular the use of RDF/OWL EuroWordNet word senses and translations [4]. Related concepts can be searche...

EuroWordNet: a multilingual database for information retrieval

The aim of the EuroWordNet-project is the development of a database with wordnets for English, Spanish, Dutch and Italian, similar to the Princeton WordNet1.5, which contains basic semantic relations between words in English. The Dutch, Italian and Spanish wordnets will be linked to the WordNet1.5 using equivalence relations. The resulting multilingual database can directly be used in (multi-li...

Evaluating the Contribution of EuroWordNet and Word Sense Disambiguation to Cross-language Information Retrieval

One of the aims of EuroWordNet (EWN) was to provide a resource for Cross-Language Information Retrieval (CLIR). In this paper we present experiments which test the usefulness of EWN for this purpose via a formal evaluation using the Spanish queries from the TREC6 CLIR test set. All CLIR systems using bilingual dictionaries must find a way of dealing with multiple translations and we employ a WS...
